Press release,

ICSPR calls on the security services in the West Bank to stop the practice of arbitrary and political arrest.

The International Commission to Support Palestinians’ Rights (ICSPR) follows with great concern and condemnation the launching of a campaign of arbitrary and political arrests of many civilians from Jenin camp by the security services in the West bank.
Known of the arrested civilians so far: Noureddin Al-Jarbou’, Muhammad Turkman, Thaer Shawahna and Ahmed Al-Ghoul.

ICSPR expresses its concern about the continuation of campaigns of arbitrary and political arrests, and fears that detainees will be subjected to ill-treatment and violation of their rights, therefore, ICSPR stresses that political and arbitrary arrests constitute a violation of international human rights covenants and Palestinian law, and it confirms that the repeated arrests and assaults on marches that went out to receive and congratulate the liberated prisoners and other violations of public freedoms may endanger civil and societal peace and the rule of law. Accordingly:

  • ICSPR calls for the immediate release of all detainees arrested for exercising their right to political affiliation, in line with what has been established by the Palestinian law and the obligations of the State of Palestine to respect the rights of its citizens under its accession to many international human rights covenants.
  • ICSPR calls on the security and police services in the West Bank to stop the practice of arrest and political revenge, and calls for an immediate and transparent investigation into all forms of violations of the rights of citizens and to stop the attack on the marches and hold the perpetrators accountable.
  • ICSPR renews its call to the Palestinian government to issue clear instructions to law enforcement officials, on the need to respect human rights in the context of their dealings with citizens.
