Press release,

ICSPR welcomes the introduction of the “Defending the Human Rights of Palestinian Children and Families Living Under Israeli Military Occupation Act” by US Congresswoman Betty McCollum

The International Commission to Support Palestinians’ Rights “ICSPR” follows with great enthusiasm the introduction of the “Defending the Human Rights of Palestinian Children and Families Living Under Israeli Military Occupation Act” by Mrs. McCollum, a member of the US Congress from Minnesota.

The Act prohibits Israel from using US taxpayers’ money to practice violations of international humanitarian law, in particular, the practice of military detention and mistreatment of Palestinian children, as well as confiscating and destroying Palestinian properties, and taking unilateral measures to annex occupied territories. The Act also holds the United States of America responsible for how the aid funded by taxpayers is used by the recipient countries, including Israel, and that Congress must stop ignoring the unfair and cruel treatment that Palestinian children and families are subjected to.

ICSPR welcomes the bold and just steps taken by U.S. Congresswoman Betty McCollum, as well as all the international voices that express their solidarity with the rights of the Palestinian people. ICSPR considers this step an important one towards the formation of an international opinion that places Israeli policies in the angle of non-compliance with international law. Therefore:

• ICSPR calls on the American community to triumph for the values of democracy and justice, by putting an end to the official US-Israeli plans aimed at politicizing international law and its stable principles.

• ICSPR urges international and regional organizations, including parliamentary unions, to work on issuing a UN resolution to boycott Israel for not adhering to United Nations resolutions.

• ICSPR urges the Palestinian leadership to make additional and significant efforts with the relevant parties to ensure that the American Congress adopts the Act. It also urges the Palestinian factions to support all international efforts exerted to triumph for the rights of the Palestinian people.
