The International Commission (ICSPR) demands the opening of a transparent investigation into the issue of changing the addresses of some voters in the electoral register.
The International Commission to Support Palestinians’ Rights (ICSPR), followed with great concern the change and manipulation of polling places for a number of voters in the electoral register, which seriously indicates the existence of a cyber breach that could tamper with the electoral record. The announcement of this breach coincided with the time-span of voter registration, which means that the matter goes beyond mere futility, in a serious attempt aimed at placing obstacles in the way of the long-awaited electoral process.
The Central Election Commission had reported, through this morning’s press release; based on complaints and in the interest of the integrity of the electoral process, it submitted an immediate complaint regarding the changes that were made without the knowledge of the committee and the citizens to the Attorney General, including all data proving the commission of this violation, to take the legal requirement against those who committed this act.
(ICSPR), stresses its absolute rejection of the attempt to tamper with the electoral record, owing to the doubts that arose regarding the integrity of the elections, and recalling the need to guarantee the integrity of the data in the electoral register. Therefore it demands the following:
- (ICSPR), demands the Palestinian Attorney General to open an immediate, urgent and transparent investigation in this regard, and publicly announce its results, including imposing penalties on its perpetrators .
- (ICSPR), demands the Central Elections Commission to ensure the safety of voter information, which is considered necessary to ensure the integrity of the elections and in a way that enhances the process of democratic transformation in Palestine.
- (ICSPR), appeals to the various Palestinian parties to overcome all obstacles, in order to enhance the state of confidence and lead to free, democratic and fair elections that establish partnership and renewal of national legitimacy.
