ICSPR discussing the human rights situation with the Attorney General of Gaza

 

Gaza Strip / A delegation from International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights (ICSPR) discussed on Thursday 13 July 2017 with the Attorney General in Gaza Diaa’ Eldin  El-Madhoun,  the situation of human rights in Gaza Strip, and the role of  Public Prosecution  to protect and maintain human right and to respect Palestinian Code of criminal  Procedure in accordance with international human rights standards, during the visit that carried out by a delegation from the Commission includes the chairman of the board of directors Dr.Salah Abdel Atti, the Director of programs, Samer Mousa , and the lawyer Karim Nashwan , Director of the legal department, Ms. Wessam Jouda, and the lawyer Rami Mohsen, members of board of directors, with a number of researchers from the Commission.

The Attorney General welcomed the delegation from International commission and thanked them for the visit praising their work, and stressing on the role of public Prosecutors in protecting the rights and freedoms, explaining that its work is complement with the work of human rights and justice institutions in promoting the system of Justice, law and freedoms, affirming his eagerness to strengthen cooperation between ICSPR and civil society organizations, he added that the rule of law to protect the people freedoms and rights, in addition to holding offenders accountable and bring them to justice.

It’s important to mention that the International Commission delegation has delivered the Attorney General a memorandum included the International Commission position towards the highlighted challenges which resulted by overlapping multiple factors, such as the suffocating siege imposed on Gaza strip, as well as the continuous division and it’s impact on the human rights situation, the memorandum focused on the Internal  violations of the rights and freedoms in Gaza Strip, the memorandum urge the Attorney-General to establish a judicial policy in Gaza strip that includes legal procedures aimed to apply law and the principle of justice, and to take into consideration that some citizens are victims of crime not the perpetrators, the legal acts should take into account political, economic, social conditions and insecurity, in order to maintain civil peace and social status that ensures the protection of freedoms and security system.

At the end of the visit, the delegation congratulates the Attorney General and wish him every success in his mission to devote the rule of law and protection of human rights, particularly in light of the exceptional circumstances in Gaza Strip.
