The International Commission(ICSPR): Strongly condemns the threatening practices of activists demanding “lift sanctions on Gaza”

The International Commission to Support Palestinians’ Rights (ICSPR) Strongly Condemns the campaign launched by the security services in the West Bank and the nearby ones, against a number of movement activists who demanding “lift sanctions on Gaza”, threatened to arrest them, and worked to defame them, accusing them of implementing foreign agendas and their association with foreign entities suspicious, The campaign did not stop at that point, when the governor of Nablus, Mr. Akram Rajoub, threatened the activists and used obscene words that could not be accepted.

This campaign, come as a new chapter in the series of violations of the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and expression of opinion, especially following the establishment of the Palestinian security services on Wednesday evening, 13 June 2018, Using excessive force to disperse a peaceful march in downtown Ramallah to demand a halt to the sanctions and measures taken against Gaza Strip, the security services began physical assault on the demonstrators, and arrested some of them and subjected to investigation.

The International Commission to Support Palestinians’ Rights (ICSPR) affirms its rejection of the campaign of defamation, threats and intimidation and expresses it as a serious violation and a crime of the human right to peaceful demonstration and expression of opinion,and affirming the right of peaceful assembly of citizens is constitutionally guaranteed in accordance with the provisions of Article 26 of Article 5 of the Palestinian Basic Law and the Law on Public Meetings No. 12 of 1998, Declaring its absolute solidarity with the movement “Lift sanctions on Gaza”, Considering that the launch of this campaign aims to prevent peaceful demonstrations calling for the cessation of collective punishment imposed on Gaza Strip, Which reveals again the fact that the Palestinian presidency and the government do not wish to lift the sanctions imposed on Gaza Strip, and that they are not interested in the disastrous humanitarian consequences caused by these measures and the Israeli siege, they register and demand the following:

1. ICSPR calling for an immediate halt to the campaign of defamation and threats against a number of activists.

2. ICSPR expressing its fear that the campaign of incitement, intimidation and intimidation would be a prelude to planning further crimes and violations against the demonstrators, who announced their intention to demonstrate again next weekend.
3. demanding the Public Prosecution to investigate the campaign of intimidation and to stand up to verbal abuse and harassment by the governor of Nablus as a form of assault on the law.
