Press Release

On the 33rd Friday of the return marches

The Israeli occupation forces killed a Palestinian and injured 140 of the participants in peaceful return marches

The International Commission to Support Palestinians’ Rights(ICSPR) strongly condemns the continued targeting of Palestinians participating in the peaceful march by the Israeli occupation forces for the 33rd consecutive Friday, since the beginning of the return marches, where they used excessive and lethal force in dealing with young people participating in the marches, and deliberately targeting medical staff and journalists.

According to Palestinian Ministry of Health, since Friday afternoon till 19:00, 09 November  2018 , the Israeli occupation forces killed Rami Sahaq Qahman( 28 years old), injured 140 Palestinian civilians, including 19 children, 6 women and 4 paramedics. Among the injured, 4 are in critical conditions.

ICSPR considers that the persistence of the Israeli occupation forces in killing peaceful demonstrators is nothing more a frightening Israeli policy that ignores the basic rights of human beings, and considers that the insistence of Israeli soldiers on the physical abuse of Palestinian demonstrators and the denial of their right to life carries a clear denial and disregard for the human rights and international humanitarian law.

ICSPR considers that the insistence of Israeli soldiers on killing Palestinian demonstrators and the denial of their right to life carries with it clear denial and disregard for the human rights system and international humanitarian law, and its affirms that the method that the Israeli occupation forces follow to deal with the Palestinian demonstrators came within the framework of implementing a systematic plan and a political decision from the highest levels in the Israeli occupation state. It also affirms that the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention have a legal obligation under article 1 of the Convention, which they undertake to respect the Convention in all circumstances, as well as their obligations under article 146 of the Convention to prosecute persons accused of committing grave breaches of the Convention. Therefore, ICSPR demand the following:

1.      ICSPR affirms that the Israeli occupation forces deliberately kill the demonstrators as a war crime in accordance with the Rome Statute establishing the Permanent International Criminal Court.

2.      ICSPR renews its warning to the Israeli occupation and its military forces against the policy of continuing to target civilians and demonstrators, and to hold them legally responsible for this, and warns the international community against the continued silence on the Israeli crimes committed against the demonstrators.

3.  ICSPR calls upon the Palestinian leadership and diplomacy to activate its role by referring all cases of physical violations and Israeli war crimes under Article 14 of the Rome Statute, which will ensure that Israeli criminals are not exempt from punishment.
