Press Release,

ICSPR demands the immediate release of citizen Alaa Bashir

The International Commission to Support Palestinians’ Rights (ICSPR) follows with deep concern the continuation of arresting Alaa Fahmi Abdul Karim Bashir (23 yr) from Qalqilya, who was arrested on May 09, 2019 by a security force composed of 25 members raided Othman bin Affan mosque in Jinsafut village – Qalqilya district -, and on the 12th of the same month, the defense team attended the first hearing of the investigation in which Bashir denied all charges against her, on the 14th of the same month Bashir dismissed the defense team, and was subjected to investigation on the same day without the presence of a defense lawyer, on the 19th of the same month, Bashir re-assigned the defense team to continue defending her and representing her to follow up the legal procedures, and she confirmed that she was pressured to dismiss the defense team from following-up her case to attend the investigation which she was subjected to on May 14, 2019 alone.
Bashir is still under arrest by the security services for the thirty-first day in a row.

The International Commission to Support Palestinians’ Rights considers that such detention without being presented to the Public Prosecution and / or the competent court constitutes a violation of the Palestinian Basic Law of 2005, the Penal Code of 2001 and the international laws and conventions on human rights, especially the Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1948. Therefore:

ICSPR calls upon the Public Prosecution to: First, work hard to ensure the immediate release of Alaa Bashir, and facilitate the task of her defense team, including allowing her to visit until she is released.
ICSPR calls on the security services in the West Bank to refrain from arresting and summoning citizens against the background of exercising their freedoms.
