(ICSPR): Palestinians in Gaza Welcome Ramadan Amid Unprecedented Humanitarian Catastrophe

Tomorrow, Saturday, March 1, 2025, marks the first day of the blessed month of Ramadan, as residents of the Gaza Strip face catastrophic and unprecedented humanitarian conditions. These dire circumstances are the result of a continuous genocidal war that has been ongoing for 16 months, transforming the Gaza Strip into a disaster zone, leaving widespread destruction and harsh living conditions.

Over 1.5 million displaced people will welcome this holy month in the open air or inside torn tents, amid severe shortages in basic needs, including food, clean water, and medical services, as the blockade continues and the entry of humanitarian aid remains restricted. The residents have also lost the ability to freely practice their religious rites, with hundreds of mosques destroyed and turned into rubble, forcing worshipers to pray amidst the ruins or in the open air.

Estimates suggest that more than two million Palestinians are suffering from a severe shortage of essential foodstuffs, exacerbating the hunger crisis, while the prices of goods have risen beyond the reach of families that have lost their sources of income. With the continued scarcity of fuel and gas, preparing Iftar and Suhoor meals has become a daily challenge for most residents.

Despite the occupation’s promises to allow humanitarian aid to enter, it continues to delay the delivery of essential supplies, including emergency shelters (caravans) for Palestinians who have lost their homes, thus violating the ceasefire agreement that came into effect on January 19, 2025.

On another front, the occupying authorities have imposed strict security restrictions on Palestinians’ access to the Al-Aqsa Mosque during Ramadan. This comes at a time when there has been a noticeable escalation in incursions by settlers into its courtyards, continuing to violate the sanctity of the mosque by performing Jewish rituals inside it.

The International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights (ICSPR) emphasizes that the continued suffering of more than two million Palestinians in Gaza requires immediate international intervention to save them from the threats of famine, disease, and displacement, and to ensure their right to a dignified life and the freedom to worship, in accordance with international humanitarian law. The Commission records and demands the following:

  1. The International Commission “ICSPR” calls on mediators and the guarantor parties of the ceasefire agreement to bear their legal and ethical responsibilities in obligating the occupying power to implement its commitments, ensure the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid, and hold it accountable for its ongoing violations that are worsening the humanitarian crisis.

  2. The International Commission “ICSPR” urges the international community, the United Nations, and humanitarian organizations to take urgent measures to secure immediate relief for the people of Gaza, ensuring the provision of food, shelter, and healthcare, to prevent widespread famine.

  3. The International Commission “ICSPR” calls on the Arab and Islamic peoples, as well as people of conscience worldwide, to make Ramadan an opportunity to intensify material and humanitarian support for Gaza, through implementing charitable and relief projects, and supporting the affected families, the sick, and the wounded.

End.
