ICSPR Conducts a Legal Awareness Workshop for Women Breadwinners on the Rights of Missing Persons, Prisoners, Detainees, and Their Families
As part of its efforts to strengthen legal awareness, empower women, and protect their rights and those of their families, the International Commission to Support Palestinian People’s Rights (ICSPR), in partnership with the Italian campaign “100×100 Gaza,” conducted a legal awareness workshop entitled “Issues Concerning Women’s Rights.” The workshop targeted women breadwinners and was held on Monday, 2 November 2026, at the Gaza Municipality Office, with the participation of 26 women.
The workshop was delivered by Ms. Afnan Jihad Bakhit, a lawyer at ICSPR, who addressed a range of legal and human rights issues related to the realities faced by Palestinian women. Particular focus was placed on the legal rights and provisions concerning missing persons and their families, prisoners and their families, and absent persons and their families. The discussion also covered the legal, social, and humanitarian implications of these cases and their impact on the rights of wives, children, and other family members, particularly amid the exceptional circumstances facing Palestinian society.
The workshop featured discussions and active engagement among participants regarding the legal and social challenges faced by the families of missing persons, prisoners, and absent persons. It also highlighted the importance of understanding available legal rights and mechanisms for their protection, thereby strengthening women’s ability to address challenges and access the necessary legal information and advice.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Khaled Al-Masri, legal arbitrator; Mr. Khaled Al-Nimnim, Mukhtar and legal arbitrator; Mr. Imad Ayoub, Mukhtar; Ms. Ola Hmeed, Psychological Support Supervisor at the Childhood Happiness Centre; and Ms. Haneen Al-Wahidi, Fine Arts Supervisor at the Centre.
The International Commission to Support Palestinian People’s Rights (ICSPR) affirmed that this workshop forms part of its efforts to address the consequences of the genocidal war and Israeli aggression by strengthening legal awareness and empowering women, while expanding women breadwinners’ access to legal knowledge and protection, particularly in matters affecting family stability, protection, and the rights of family members. The Commission also emphasised the importance of integrating local and international efforts and partnerships to support women, strengthen the resilience of Palestinian families, and promote social cohesion and civil peace.
