ICSPR Condemns the Successive U.S. Measures Aimed at Undermining the International Legal System and Violating the Rights of the Palestinian People
The International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights (ICSPR) expresses its strong condemnation and denunciation of the successive U.S. measures that aim to undermine the international legal system and entrench a policy of impunity, in blatant violation of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people. These policies reflect absolute bias toward the occupying power, encouraging it to persist in violating international law and reinforcing a reality of colonialism and racial discrimination.
In this context, the U.S. administration has imposed punitive measures against the International Criminal Court (ICC). Previously, former U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing sanctions on ICC officials, a dangerous step aimed at obstructing the court’s independent judicial work and thwarting international accountability efforts. These policies serve only the Israeli occupation, which seeks to evade international justice, and they constitute a direct assault on the international justice system, in flagrant violation of the principles of international law.
These measures have also coincided with a series of U.S. decisions reflecting a deliberate approach to undermining the foundations of international law, including withdrawing from the United Nations Human Rights Council, the Paris Climate Agreement, and the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as issuing decisions to target supporters of the Palestinian cause in the United States. This demonstrates a systematic trend toward weakening international governance mechanisms and continuing to support genocide crimes and violations of international law. Furthermore, the U.S. administration’s intentions to support a mass forced displacement plan for Palestinians from the Gaza Strip have become evident. This constitutes a grave crime amounting to crimes against humanity, in clear contradiction of international humanitarian law and international human rights law.
The International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights (ICSPR) affirms that the U.S. punitive measures against the ICC deal a severe blow to efforts to achieve international justice, encourage the continuation of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity without deterrence. It also emphasizes that the United States’ withdrawal from international organizations and agreements not only weakens the international legal system but also gives the occupying power a green light to continue its aggressive and expansionist settlement policies. ICSPR expresses its solidarity with the permanent bodies of the International Criminal Court and activists of the solidarity movement with Palestinians in the United States. It stresses that the continued absolute U.S. bias in favor of the occupation will only fuel the conflict, prolong the occupation, increase hatred toward the United States, and threaten regional and international peace and security. Accordingly, ICSPR records and demands the following:
•ICSPR: Reaffirms its firm position that any U.S. attempts to undermine international law or shield the occupation from accountability will not change the fact that the Palestinian people possess inalienable rights, foremost among them the right to self-determination, return, and the establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
•ICSPR: Calls on the international community, particularly the State Parties to the Rome Statute, to reject blatant U.S. interference in the work of the International Criminal Court and to take deterrent measures to protect the independence of international justice.
•ICSPR: Urges the United Nations and international human rights organizations to confront plans for the mass forced displacement of Palestinians in Gaza, ensure that these plans are not implemented as they constitute a flagrant violation of international law, and take serious action to end the Israeli occupation.
•ICSPR: Calls on the European Union, free nations worldwide, and the American people to exert all possible political, diplomatic, and grassroots pressure on the U.S. administration to restore its commitment to the rule of law, international agreements, and organizations, and to cease policies of evading legal responsibility and covering up Israeli genocide and war crimes.
•ICSPR: Stresses the need to strengthen Palestinian, Arab, and international efforts to hold those responsible for international crimes against the Palestinian people accountable and to confront Israeli occupation policies supported by the U.S. through effective legal and diplomatic mechanisms.
