The International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights “ICSPR” has followed with great concern and interest the establishment of the Ministry of Interior in the Gaza Strip; This morning, Sunday, September 04, 2022, (05) death sentences were executed against those convicted of murder and communicating with the occupation.

The international body mobilizes as it condemns the execution of death sentences in the Gaza Strip; As it involves a violation of international agreements ratified by Palestine, especially the Second Protocol of 1989 annexed to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights regarding the abolition of the death penalty, in addition to the fact that the Basic Law and the Code of Criminal Procedures require the President’s approval of sentences before execution, and the Commission expresses its fear that the application of the The Revolutionary Penal Code of 1979, as it is not part of the legal and constitutional system of the Palestinian Authority, and if its position is repeated on the necessity of providing all fair trial guarantees and ensuring the right of the accused to benefit from all means of litigation, including the appeal in cassation, the petition for amnesty, and the non-submission of civilians to military justice, and expressing its fear That the execution of judgments was carried out under the influence of public opinion and not to achieve justice in the abstract sense, it stresses the need to work on the compatibility of Palestinian legislation, and in a manner that achieves the rule of law and justice.
