ICSPR addresses the Human Rights Advisor at IPU regarding the Israeli violations against Palestinian deputies.

A follow-up letter, to inform you of the dangerous developments against Deputy Khaleda Jarrar and her colleagues in the prisons of the Israeli occupation.

The International Commission to Support Palestinians’ Rights (ICSPR)  sent a follow-up letter to Ms. Buthaina Mhherzi ” Human Rights Advisor – International Parliamentarians Union”, informing her the serious violations against the Palestinian deputy Khaleda Jarrar, and her fellow deputy prisoners in the prisons of the Israeli military occupation. The letter indicated some of the violations against deputies and their immunity as follows:

  • On 1 March 2021, the Occupation Court of Ofer issued a court ruling against Deputy Khaleda Jarrar, with a two-year prison term and a fine, in violation of all relevant international norms and conventions.
  • Recently, the Israeli military occupation authorities have escalated their raids and summons against many leaders and activists from the occupied West Bank, threatening them with arrest if they participate in the upcoming legislative elections scheduled to be held in May 2021.
  • The occupation authority is still arresting deputy Marwan Barghouti, since 15 April 2002. It also issued a brutal verdict against him with (5) life-times imprisonment and forty years, given that he was an elected representative of the Ramallah district in the 1996 elections, and he was nominated in absentia and won during the 2006 elections for the Ramallah district.
  • The occupation authorities have continued to arrest Deputy “Ahmed Saadat”, a resident of the Ramallah governorate in the West Bank, since 14 March 2006. They have sentenced him to 30 years.

Finally, the letter concluded by demanding practical measures to pressure the occupation authorities to oblige them to respect the parliamentary experience and the process of democratic transformation in the territories Palestinian.
