“ICSPR” and International Human Rights Institutions on International Human Rights Day Urgent Call to Stop the Genocide in Gaza

Geneva – December 10, 2024

Urgent Appeal

On the occasion of the International Human Rights Day

“Stop the Genocide in Gaza”

The genocide perpetrated by Israel since October 7, 2023, in Gaza continues, resulting in the deaths of 44,363 Palestinian citizens to date, including 17,581 children, 12,048 women, 1,055 medical staff, 190 journalists, and 12,780 students. Israel has also completely destroyed 132 schools and universities and partially destroyed 348 others, in addition to demolishing more than 160,500 housing units. Furthermore, 162 health facilities and 134 ambulances have been deliberately targeted.

Currently, there are 12,650 injured individuals in Gaza who urgently need to travel abroad for treatment, as well as 12,500 cancer patients facing death and in desperate need of care.

Moreover, 785,000 students have been deprived of education, and more than 2 million displaced people are without shelter, suffering from severe food and water shortages, under a comprehensive blockade.

Reports have documented the theft of over 2,300 corpses from Gaza’s cemeteries and the exhumation of more than 520 bodies from mass graves inside hospitals.

The inhumane policy of starvation imposed by the occupying forces in Gaza, especially in Jabalia, Beit Lahia, and Beit Hanoun, continues, leaving over 70,000 citizens, mostly women and children, facing death.

The massacres and horrific crimes committed by Israel, which continue with daily atrocities, represent some of the most severe crimes against humanity and war crimes that must be held accountable and prosecuted in international justice, with hundreds of documented cases of heinous crimes.

The adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10, 1948, was an important moment for the world to unite and prevent crimes of genocide, such as those being perpetrated now before the world’s eyes for 420 days.

After World War II, the world collectively agreed that the Declaration was a promise from all of humanity to never repeat the crimes and violations committed during the war.

On the occasion of the commemoration of International Human Rights Day, which is observed annually on December 10, the undersigned organizations and institutions call for urgent and immediate action to:

  • Take all necessary measures to stop the genocide in Gaza and save the lives of hundreds of thousands of patients, children, women, and civilians before it is too late.
  • Ensure accountability for those responsible for genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.
  • Halt the export of weapons and ammunition to Israel and stop cooperation projects with it.
  • End plans to undermine international justice and criminalize attacks on the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
