Gaza Workers: The War Has Erased Their Livelihoods

As part of its human rights and humanitarian efforts, the International Commission to Support Palestinian People’s Rights “Hashd,” in monitoring the humanitarian situation and Israeli occupation crimes, is documenting stories and cases that reveal genocidal crimes and the dire humanitarian conditions faced by Gaza workers due to the ongoing war.

A researcher from the commission met with a group of workers in northern Gaza, where they confirmed that they have lost all their sources of income since the first day of the war and have fallen into extreme poverty. They are unable to provide the most basic needs for their families and children, who are suffering from hunger, pain, and poverty.

Atallah Mustafa Abu Nada, a father living in the Jabalia refugee camp, is enduring severe hardships due to the war. His son was also seriously injured by the shells and missiles of the occupation.

Abu Nada explains that he lost his job during the war and that the humanitarian aid is insufficient for his family. His children are starving, and he is unable to provide them with proper food or give them their daily allowance like other children.

Abu Nada’s house was completely destroyed during the war, and he has become displaced, residing in one of the shelters in northern Gaza. He calls for protection for himself, his family, and the entire Palestinian people, an end to the war, and the provision of opportunities for the workers who are being crushed by the knives of poverty and war.

Abu Nada is just one of hundreds of thousands of cases of workers in Gaza who lost their jobs during the war.

“Hashd” urges civil society to work towards ending the aggression, ensuring the flow of all humanitarian aid to Gaza’s residents, providing job opportunities for them, holding Israeli officials accountable for their crimes, and providing international protection for Palestinians.

It is worth noting that Gaza’s workers have been significantly affected by the recent war on Gaza, which has caused widespread destruction to economic establishments and commercial shops. This damage has led to the loss of many job opportunities, further worsening the suffering of families and deteriorating economic conditions in the region. According to a recent report by the International Labour Organization and the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, the unemployment rate in the besieged sector has reached 79.1%, while the real gross domestic product has decreased by 83.5%.
