Palestinian media professionals and human rights activists have called on international human rights and journalistic institutions to intervene immediately and urgently to put an end to Israeli violations against Palestinian journalists in the Gaza Strip, the occupied West Bank, and Jerusalem, in a way that ensures the freedom of journalistic work guaranteed by international legislation and laws.

They advocated for the translation and implementation of international rules to safeguard journalists on the ground to put a stop to the series of attacks against Palestinian journalists.

The speakers emphasized the importance of official institutions documenting and submitting the occupation’s crimes against journalists to international courts to hold the soldiers and leaders of the occupation accountable, especially since the international Geneva Convention and the Rome Statute confirmed that targeting media professionals while they are at work is a war crime punishable by international law.

They pointed out the importance of establishing a plan for Palestinian journalists to collaborate with Arab and international journalistic institutions and bodies, as well as to raise awareness of Israeli violations against them. They also emphasized the importance of forming a strong union body that includes all Palestinians without bias or discrimination to convey the voice of journalists to the world.

They all agreed on the importance of assembling the official Palestinian position through embassies and institutions around the world, as well as taking immediate and urgent action to expose the occupation’s crimes against the Palestinian journalist, prosecute the killing, and prosecute them until they are punished.

According to the Palestinian Journalists Support Committee, Israeli occupation forces have perpetrated 514 breaches against journalists since the beginning of 2023, including injuries, arrests, coverage restrictions, provocation, and harassment.
