An urgent humanitarian appeal
to urge you to oblige the occupation authorities to allow the entrance of Covid-19 vaccines to the Gaza Strip
The International Commission to Support Palestinians’ Rights (ICSPR) hopes that this letter finds you well, and it highly appreciates your efforts in the context of ensuring a decent life for the human being, including the right to health, one of the most fundamental rights, at a time where Covid-19 threatens us all, which cannot be defeated without upholding the principles of humanity, solidarity and global partnership.
In the same context, we address you again through this appeal, to inform you of the dangerous developments that threaten the lives of about (2) million Palestinian citizens of the besieged Gaza Strip for the 15th year in a row, and these developments are represented in the Israeli military occupation authorities prevention of Covid-19 vaccines entrance, sent by the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Ramallah, on Monday, 15th of February, 2021, according to the statements of the Palestinian Minister of Health Mai Al-Keela, “The ministry sent about (2000) dose of “Sputnik V” vaccine to the Gaza Strip, for the medical staff working in the intensive care rooms designated for Coronavirus patients, and the staff working in the emergency departments.” However, the Israeli military occupation authorities proceeded to prevent their entry in an arbitrary and blatant manner inconsistent with the minimum customs, laws and international agreements, and from the responsibilities of the occupation authority towards the inhabitants of the occupied territory under international humanitarian law, which will exacerbate the suffering of the Gaza Strip in light of the outbreak of the Coronavirus, especially in light of the Israeli sea and land blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip, which has repercussions on the economic, health and social conditions in the Gaza Strip.
(ICSPR), while expressing its concern about the consequences of this arbitrary and racist occupation act, addresses you with this urgent appeal, urging you to immediately and seriously intervene to oblige the occupation authorities to allow the entrance of Covid-19 vaccines to the Gaza Strip, more pressure should be included to oblige them to assume their responsibilities as a war occupation force towards the residents of the occupied territory, to ensure that civilians in the Gaza Strip are spared the ravages of the blockade and the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus.
In conclusion, we hope that you will adopt this appeal at once, for tomorrow it may be too late, as the citizens of the Gaza Strip consider your contribution and your interventions as a lever in order to ensure their right to prevention and appropriate treatment.
