I.C.S.P.R Condemn the arrest of four human rights defenders

The International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights (I.C.S.P.R) condemns in the strongest terms the arrest of four Palestinian human rights defenders during their participation in a non-violent activity (planting olive trees in lands endangered with confiscation near Kiryat Arba settlement east of Hebron, on the occasion of the 41st anniversary of the Land Day. The defenders are: Anan Dana, activist of the Hebron Defense Committee, Badee Dweik activist of the Human Rights Defenders’ group, Younes Arar director of The Palestinian Commission against the Wall and Settlement in the southern West Bank, and activist Ishaq al-Khateeb. On Sunday, April 2, 2017, the four defenders were brought before the Ofer Military Court, which extended their detention and refused to release them. The International Organization for the Support of the Rights of the Palestinian People (IOSRPP) declares its solidarity with the human rights defenders who were arrested by the Israeli occupation forces for illegal demonstration in a closed military zone as claimed, and stressing the right of the Palestinians to demonstrate and to resist the occupier. As it sees the raising of the Israeli aggressions against the Palestinian human rights activists and the permanent disregard for human rights and the international protection of human rights defenders by the Israeli occupying state:

– I.C.S.P.R: demand for the immediate release of the human rights defenders arrested by the Israeli occupation authorities.

– I.C.S.P.R: Urge the international organizations (governmental and non-governmental) concerned with the defense of human rights activists to intervene effectively to ensure the release of Palestinian defenders from Israeli jails.

– I.C.S.P.R: Urges the international community, including the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention, to fulfill their obligations and to take responsibility through immediate action to put an end to violations of international law committed by the Israeli occupation forces against Palestinian activists.
