International commission to support Palestinian rights: World Labor Day is an opportunity to review and evaluate national policies for the protection of workers and unemployed in the occupied Palestinian territories
International Organization for the Support of the Rights of the Palestinian People (crowd) is celebrating the International Labor Day, which happen on Friday, May 1, 2020, and is a celebration for the world to commemorate the workers who have been defending their rights for more than a century.
This occasion passes this year, and the situation of the Palestinian working class and society as a whole continues to witness an unprecedented deterioration in the social and economic scene, especially in light of the weak mechanisms of protecting workers and guaranteeing their rights, and the absence of a Palestinian development plan that takes the responsibility of improving the ways of protecting the rights of workers and the unemployed. The Palestinian scene has been further worsened, and economic conditions in the health emergency have deteriorated sharply in the face of the fight against Corona Virus “Covid 19” and the resulting repercussions and crises that have led to the deterioration of the economic and social conditions of a wide range of employers and workers from different sectors.
The Labor situation Auditor shall ensure that there is a practice on the reality that refers to the exploitation of workers and unemployed persons by employing them and engaging in remunerated and difficult tasks in accordance with the nature of the work, or even with the minimum legally recognized wages. The absence of clear national policies to combat these behaviors, including the development of a national unemployment protection policy, which is widespread among young people, is contributing to these practices.
ICSPR, congratulating Palestinian workers, and stressing that successive Palestinian governments have failed to adopt policies that protect workers, in particular minimum wages, well-adapted working conditions, and considering that occupation and its various policies, division and accompanying decisions, Played a visible role in the deterioration of the social and economic conditions of workers and the unemployed, it demands:
- ICSPR: demands the Palestinian government that its most dominant regime implement effective policies to protect the right to work and to protect against unemployment, reduce unemployment and protect the unemployed from unemployment and poverty, in line with its international commitments under the international human rights conventions that it has governed five years ago.
- ICSPR: demands the Palestinian official authorities for the necessity of taking serious steps to reduce the consequences of measures to prevent the corona pandemic and to put radical solutions to the problem of workers in Gaza Strip.
- ICSPR: urges different trade unions for the importance of unity and the creation of practical unions capable of exerting significant pressure on the Palestinian government to force it to interfere positively in a way that guarantees internationally recognized Palestinian workers’ rights.
- ICSPR: calls the international community, particularly the International Labor Organization to take effective action to put pressure on the occupying Power to fulfill its legal obligations to Palestinian workers, including by stopping the siege of the Gaza Strip and contributing to the realization of accountability for violations by the occupying Power against Palestinian workers and civilians alike.
