ICSPR Holds Awareness Workshop on the Impact of Infrastructure Destruction on the Safety and Health of Displaced Persons in Gaza City

The International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights (ICSPR), in partnership with the Italian campaign “100×100 Gaza”, held an awareness workshop titled “The Impact of Infrastructure Destruction on the Safety and Health of Displaced Persons” at Al-Ru’ya Camp – Al-Jawazat, west of Gaza City, with the participation of 26 displaced women. The workshop comes as part of ICSPR’s ongoing efforts to strengthen health and environmental awareness among displaced families and to enable them to cope with the challenges resulting from the war and the consequences of displacement.

The workshop aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of the health and environmental risks arising from the destruction of infrastructure and the resulting deterioration in basic services, and the impact of this on public health and the safety of families inside shelters and displacement camps, particularly in light of the dire humanitarian conditions that displaced persons are experiencing.

The workshop addressed the main health problems associated with water contamination, the accumulation of solid waste, weak sewage services, and the spread of infectious diseases, in addition to presenting a set of preventive measures and sound health practices that can be followed to reduce these risks and protect family members, especially children and older persons.

The event saw active engagement and participation from the displaced women, who discussed the daily challenges they face amid limited resources and basic services, and ways to promote healthy practices within displacement settings in ways that contribute to safeguarding the health and safety of families and reducing surrounding health and environmental risks.

Participants emphasized the importance of such awareness sessions in providing them with the information and guidance needed to deal with the exceptional conditions imposed by displacement, and in strengthening their ability to protect their families and maintain their safety in the face of mounting challenges.

ICSPR affirmed that this workshop forms part of its ongoing efforts to raise community awareness and enhance the humanitarian response to the needs of displaced persons by implementing awareness activities and programs that empower women, protect displaced families, and bolster their resilience, thereby helping to guarantee their right to health and to a dignified life.
