ICSPR Conducts an Awareness Workshop on Children’s Rights and the Situation of Orphans in the Central Governorate
The International Commission to Support Palestinian People’s Rights (ICSPR), in partnership with the Italian campaign “100×100 Gaza,” conducted an awareness workshop targeting 20 mothers of orphans in one of the displacement camps in the Central Governorate. The workshop was held as part of ICSPR’s ongoing efforts to promote awareness of children’s rights and support affected families in the Gaza Strip, particularly amid the difficult humanitarian conditions caused by the war.
The workshop addressed several issues related to children’s rights and their humanitarian reality, including an overview of the fundamental principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, with emphasis on children’s rights to protection, education, healthcare, and a dignified life. The session sought to strengthen community awareness of the importance of safeguarding and defending these rights.
The workshop also discussed the situation of children during the war and the humanitarian suffering and harsh living conditions they face, while highlighting the number of child victims and the psychological and social impacts that the war has left on their lives and future. It emphasized the urgent need for humanitarian and rights-based interventions to protect and support children.
In addition, the workshop addressed the conditions of orphaned children and their legal and social rights, stressing the importance of ensuring protection, care, and psychosocial support, as well as guaranteeing their right to live in safety and dignity within society, thereby helping to mitigate the consequences of losing caregivers and the impacts of displacement and war.
The workshop witnessed active participation and engagement from the attending women, who discussed the challenges facing children and families under the current circumstances, emphasizing the importance of sustaining community and human rights efforts aimed at protecting children, defending their rights, and enhancing opportunities for care and support.
ICSPR affirmed that this workshop comes within the framework of its partnership with the Italian campaign “100×100 Gaza,” which seeks to support children and affected families in the Gaza Strip through humanitarian response programs, awareness initiatives, and psychosocial support. These efforts contribute to strengthening community awareness of children’s rights and supporting the most vulnerable groups, especially orphaned children and their families, while enhancing their resilience and social and psychological empowerment.
