ICSPR Condemns the Ongoing Genocidal War on Gaza and Warns of Expanding Ground Invasion

The International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights (ICSPR) strongly condemns the Israeli occupation forces’ continued systematic war against civilians in the Gaza Strip, resulting in mass massacres and grave violations of international humanitarian law. At dawn on Tuesday, March 18, Israeli forces violated the ceasefire agreement, maintaining the closure of border crossings and blocking humanitarian aid, exacerbating the already dire humanitarian situation. Killings and attacks on civilians, including children, women, and the elderly, have escalated, leading to mass displacement. The severe shortage of shelter has forced thousands of families to sleep in the open air amid shocking international silence and inaction.

With ongoing intense bombardments targeting homes, tents, and shelter centers, the number of martyrs has risen to 830 since the resumption of hostilities, with 1,787 wounded. This brings the total number of casualties since October 7 to 50,183 martyrs and 113,828 wounded. The Israeli army has also issued seven mass displacement orders, the latest being today in the neighborhoods of Al-Zaytoun, Tel Al-Hawa, and southern Al-Rimal, threatening to forcibly displace more than 15% of Gaza’s total area. According to UN estimates, over 142,000 people were displaced between March 18 and March 23 alone.

Beyond the battlefield crimes, the population of Gaza is facing a severe humanitarian catastrophe and widespread famine due to the acute shortage of food and essential supplies. Prices have skyrocketed due to the ongoing closure of crossings for 25 consecutive days, amounting to a deliberate starvation policy, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.

Additionally, the occupation continues to commit an intentional water crisis by cutting electricity to the desalination plant in Deir al-Balah and preventing fuel entry, severely limiting access to clean drinking water and putting hundreds of thousands of lives at risk.

The healthcare system is also on the brink of collapse as hospitals struggle with a massive influx of wounded individuals. Severe shortages of medical supplies, medications, and fuel are pushing healthcare facilities toward a total shutdown, endangering countless lives.

Meanwhile, for the fifth consecutive day, Israeli forces have been holding nine paramedics from the Palestinian Red Crescent, whose fate remains unknown after they were besieged and attacked in Tel Al-Sultan neighborhood in Rafah. Additionally, four civil defense workers are also missing, raising serious concerns about their well-being, especially amid reports of field executions carried out by Israeli forces against some of the besieged individuals.

The Israeli occupation also continues to target journalists to suppress and obscure media coverage. The number of journalists killed has now reached 208 since October 7, in blatant violation of international law, which guarantees protection for media professionals.

In the West Bank, ethnic cleansing and settlement expansion crimes persist, with Israeli forces demolishing homes and forcibly displacing thousands of Palestinian families. The destruction of more than 200 homes in Jenin refugee camp mirrors the devastation previously witnessed in Jenin and Nur Shams, reflecting a systematic effort to eradicate Palestinian refugee communities.

ICSPR welcomes the United Nations Human Rights Council’s call for the international community to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities to protect Palestinians, halt aggression, and hold perpetrators accountable. It warns of the grave consequences of the Israeli occupation expanding its ground operations. Furthermore, ICSPR stresses that the international community’s failure to act decisively and its reliance on mere statements of condemnation embolden Israel to continue committing genocide, ethnic cleansing, and starvation against Palestinian civilians. Accordingly, ICSPR demands the following:

  • Immediate international action by the global community, the United Nations, regional and international organizations, and human rights defenders to stop the ongoing genocide against civilians in Gaza.

  • Activation of all political, diplomatic, legal, and grassroots mechanisms to impose sanctions on the occupying state and prosecute its leaders before international courts.

  • Urgent opening of humanitarian corridors to facilitate the entry of food, medical supplies, and fuel, and to evacuate the wounded.

  • Escalation of international pressure to compel Israel to comply with international legitimacy resolutions, including UN Security Council Resolution 2735 and the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, among other ignored rulings.

End.
