ICSPR Calls for Turning International and European Statements into Effective Measures to Stop the Genocidal War in the Gaza Strip
The International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights (ICSPR) welcomes the recent advanced statements and positions issued by a number of European and Western countries, which included clear condemnations of the genocide and the prevention of humanitarian aid committed by the Israeli occupation forces in the Gaza Strip. These statements expressed deep concern over the grave and systematic crimes and violations being perpetrated against Palestinian civilians.
Although these statements came late, they represent an important development in the trajectory of international positions regarding the systematic aggression and ongoing genocidal war against the Palestinian people. This war has resulted in the killing, injury, and disappearance of nearly 200,000 individuals; the destruction of 88% of buildings, homes, health, educational, service, and economic facilities, and infrastructure in the Gaza Strip; and repeated forced displacement, leaving 90% of the population displaced, including 500,000 people living in the streets without tents, food, or clean drinking water, and exposed to the spread of diseases, epidemics, and the threat of death and annihilation.
These statements underscore the urgent need to translate words into concrete, serious, and tangible actions that ensure an end to the genocide and Israeli aggression, the enforcement of humanitarian aid delivery, accountability for Israel’s crimes, an end to its continued impunity, and the imposition of sanctions.
ICSPR affirms that continued international inaction or mere expressions of concern and condemnation, without taking decisive measures, constitutes indirect complicity and encourages the Israeli occupation to persist in its criminal policies. This poses a threat to regional and international peace and security.
ICSPR renews its appeal to the international community to uphold its moral, legal, and humanitarian responsibilities, and to work earnestly to stop the massacres and brutal crimes committed against Palestinian civilians—especially in the Gaza Strip—which have continued for 19 months. It calls for an end to the era of impunity and the realization of justice and dignity for the Palestinian people.
ICSPR urges countries around the world, especially Arab and Islamic nations, to take practical and unified steps at all political, legal, and diplomatic levels to support the Palestinian people and enhance their resilience. It salutes the popular and civil solidarity movements across various Western and European countries, which have been one of the main drivers behind the shift in governmental positions. ICSPR also urges all free people around the world, especially in Europe, to continue their active mobilization to denounce and condemn the starvation and genocidal crimes being inflicted on over 2.3 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, and to maintain pressure on governments to fulfill their moral, legal, and humanitarian obligations to end the genocide and Israeli aggression.
ICSPR stresses that justice can only be achieved through international efforts to halt the aggression and genocide, lift the blockade, hold Israeli war criminals accountable, and ensure the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them their right to self-determination, return, and the establishment of an independent state.
Accordingly, ICSPR calls on the international community, particularly European and Western countries, to:
-
Issue a decision by the European Union to designate the State of Israel as a rogue state that violates international humanitarian law and commits genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.
-
Sever political, military, and economic relations with the occupying authorities as a necessary moral and legal step to stop the ongoing international crimes against civilians.
-
Halt the export of weapons, military equipment, and technology used in the genocidal war against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
-
Impose economic and trade sanctions on Israel to deter it from continuing its aggression, in line with international obligations.
-
Act within the UN Security Council to issue a binding resolution to stop the Israeli aggression, genocide, and collective punishment; facilitate the urgent delivery of humanitarian and medical aid to civilians in Gaza; support the work of international organizations—especially UNRWA; and deploy international forces to protect civilians.
-
Support international and regional mediation efforts aimed at finding diplomatic solutions that curb Israeli arrogance and pave the way for a just resolution that ends the occupation.
-
Exert serious and direct pressure on U.S. decision-makers to halt their immoral and illegal support and partnership with the Israeli occupation.
-
Support legal proceedings before the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court to ensure the prosecution of Israeli leaders and the state of Israel, and to deliver justice and compensation to the victims of genocide.
