ICSPR and 343 Organizations Condemn Trump’s Statements on the Displacement of Palestinians and Call on the United Nations to Implement Its Resolutions on the Right to Self-Determination, Return, and Independence

At the initiative of the Egyptian Federation for Development Policies and Social Protection, 343 Civil Society and Human Rights Networks and Organizations Condemn Trump’s Statements on Displacing Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt and Jordan and Demand the United Nations Implement Its Resolutions on the Right of the Palestinian People to Self-Determination, Return and Independence

The undersigned civil society and human rights organizations express their total rejection and condemnation of the position of US President Donald Trump and his insistence on displacing the brave Palestinian people to Egypt and Jordan and liquidating the Palestinian cause, after nearly a year and four months of genocide, crimes of starvation, siege, torture of civilians, targeting the sick, wounded and medical staff carried out by the occupying and apartheid state against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

The undersigned organizations see Trump’s statements as a setback to the peace process based on justice in the Middle East, and a step backwards, after the American position shifted from pretending to be neutral to taking a declared position against the historical Arab rights in their homeland. The United States is an accomplice in the aggression against Gaza and has no right to propose a solution to the Palestinian regime. Rather, as a member of the International Criminal Court, the Palestinian state must refer Trump to the court pursuant to Article 12, paragraph 1, of the Court’s Statute.

The signatory organizations call for the activation of international law, international human rights law, international humanitarian law and the Rome Charter to confront the war crimes and aggression carried out by the occupation against the Palestinian people with the aim of genocide, forced displacement and redrawing a new map in the Middle East. Displacement and population transfer represent war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide by those who carry them out, incite them or contribute to perpetrate them, on the one hand, and crime of aggression against the countries that will be forced to receive the displaced people, on the other hand.

The solution of the Palestinian issue will not produce the desired results without working to implement the relevant UN resolutions to achieve international peace and security, the most important of which are Security Council Resolution 194 of 1948, which calls for the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and compensation, Resolution 242 of 1967, which calls for Israel’s withdrawal from the territories it occupied in the 1967 war and emphasizes the need to achieve a just and lasting peace, Resolution 338 of 1973, which calls for An immediate ceasefire in the October 1973 war and the implementation of Resolution 242; Resolution 478 of 1980, which rejects Israel’s annexation of East Jerusalem and considers it invalid; Resolution 2334 of 2016, which emphasizes the illegality of Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories; and other UN General Assembly resolutions. And the decisions of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which has UN authority in any dispute, and the historical decision of the International Criminal Court (ICC), which expresses the international community’s position on this deep-rooted conflict and constitutes a legal reference point to support the indefeasible rights of the Palestinian people and seek to achieve justice.

The organizations appreciate the position taken by the Arab peoples and some Arab regimes in the face of the new colonialist wave, most notably the position of Egypt and Jordan, which rejects the liquidation of the Palestinian cause, especially since America’s position contradicts the most important principle of the United Nations: the sovereignty of states over their territories, and violates international law and the UN Charter.

We call on international organizations and the international community to take a strong stance to reject the US position, which is a profound and historic moral setback, a violation of the United Nations Charter, an anti-humanitarian speech, and a moral collapse of modern civilization, especially since it comes from a country that leads NATO. We hope that international organizations will wash their hands of this shame that stains the positions of those who support it and those who are silent about it.

Finally, the organizations demand the following:

The United Nations Organization and the international community declare their complete rejection of the US President’s statements regarding the displacement of Palestinians to Jordan and Egypt, and appreciate the positions of Egypt and Jordan on what threatens their national security.

Emphasizing the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, return, independence and reconstruction of Gaza, and that the solution to the issue should be the reconstruction of Gaza and not the displacement of its people.

Prosecuting Israeli war criminals for their war crimes and genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza, the West Bank and other areas.

The United Nations to enforce international humanitarian law and resolutions related to the right of the Palestinian people to enjoy the right to self-determination, return, and independence.

A comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, through full adherence to the United Nations resolutions in this regard, foremost of which is the right of return, compensation, self-determination and building an independent state on its national soil.
