ICSPR Conducts an Awareness Workshop on Strengthening Family Protection to Reduce Child Labor in Displacement Camps in Southern Gaza Strip

The International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights (ICSPR), in partnership with the Italian campaign “100×100 Gaza,” conducted an awareness workshop entitled “Strengthening Family Protection to Reduce Child Labor in Displacement Camps in Southern Gaza Strip” at Ahmed Mishnish Camp in Al-Nakheel Street area, Deir Al-Balah City, with the participation of 21 displaced women. The workshop was held as part of ICSPR’s ongoing efforts to protect children’s rights and strengthen the role of families in providing a safe and supportive environment for children.

The workshop aimed to raise mothers’ awareness of the risks of child labor and its negative impacts on children’s physical, psychological, and educational development. It also highlighted the vital role of families in protecting children from economic exploitation and ensuring their enjoyment of fundamental rights, particularly the rights to education, protection, and healthy development.

The workshop addressed the concept of child labor and the factors contributing to its spread amid the difficult humanitarian and economic conditions faced by displaced families. It also discussed the consequences of child labor, including depriving children of education, exposing them to health, social, and psychological risks, and negatively affecting their future opportunities and overall development.

The workshop further emphasized the importance of strengthening family protection and creating a supportive environment for children by addressing their psychological, educational, and social needs. It highlighted the need to empower families to cope with challenges that may push children into the labor market at an early age, thereby safeguarding their childhood and protecting their rights.

The workshop witnessed active engagement and participation from the attending women, who discussed the challenges facing families amid displacement and deteriorating living conditions, as well as ways to protect children and preserve their rights despite the exceptional circumstances affecting the Gaza Strip.

ICSPR affirmed that this workshop comes within the framework of its partnership with the Italian campaign “100×100 Gaza,” which aims to support displaced families and promote community awareness of children’s rights through awareness-raising activities and programs. These efforts contribute to reducing violations against children and ensuring a safe environment that protects them and guarantees their right to education, development, and a dignified life.
