Global Solidarity for Peace in Palestine Calls on the UN to Fulfill Its Commitment to Halt Genocide and Protect Palestinians

The Global Solidarity for Peace in Palestine (GSPP), which encompasses over 100 organizations, including the International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights (ICSPR), has submitted an urgent letter to Mr. António Guterres, UN Secretary-General, Mr. Dennis Francis, President of the UN General Assembly, the Human Rights Council, and UN Special Rapporteurs.

The letter urges immediate and decisive action to implement UN resolutions, calling for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, an end to the ongoing genocide, the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid, and the protection of Palestinians in accordance with Security Council and General Assembly resolutions.

Signed by representatives of 100 human rights and civil society organizations from around the world, the letter calls for:

  • The full withdrawal of Israel from the occupied Palestinian territories.
  • The establishment of secure humanitarian corridors.
  • Activation of international sanctions and boycotts against Israel.
  • A comprehensive arms embargo on Israel.
  • Suspension of Israel’s membership in the General Assembly until it complies with international law.

The GSPP’s appeals come amidst growing global condemnation and rejection of Israel’s blatant and continuous violations of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

This collective call aligns with a recent 300-page Amnesty International report describing Israel’s attacks on Gaza as genocide. Additionally, the International Criminal Court (ICC) recently issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. These developments build upon reports by ICSPR and other human rights organizations, alongside numerous international resolutions and decisions by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), demanding an end to genocide, the guarantee of humanitarian aid, and the protection of civilians.

Dr. Salah Abdel Ati, President of ICSPR and a founding member of the Global Solidarity for Peace in Palestine, stated:
“Israel continues its grave violations of the Genocide Convention, international humanitarian law, human rights standards, and UN resolutions. It has demonstrated clear intent to annihilate Palestinians, killing approximately 60,000 people, injuring 107,000 others, forcibly displacing 95% of Gaza’s population, and destroying 90% of homes, facilities, and infrastructure in Gaza. Palestinians’ lives have been reduced to unimaginable suffering, while the West Bank has faced intensified military raids, colonial settlement expansions, arbitrary arrests, and brutal treatment of detainees, particularly prisoners from Gaza.”

Dr. Abdel Ati called on global communities to escalate grassroots movements to pressure their governments into fulfilling their ethical and legal responsibilities. He also urged the UN and General Assembly member states to employ all diplomatic and legal measures to form an international humanitarian coalition aimed at halting genocide, holding perpetrators accountable, and ensuring justice for the Palestinian people.

Miguel Alvarez Gandara, a member of the Global Solidarity for Peace in Palestine, appealed to activists and political advocates worldwide to exert pressure on Israel to comply with international human rights laws. He called on nations to condemn and reject the crime of genocide, mobilize global efforts to protect civilians, ensure humanitarian aid for Gaza residents, and prosecute those responsible for international crimes.
