ICSPR: Suspending the Allocations of Martyrs, Prisoners, and Wounded Individuals is a Violation of National and Human Rights
The International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights (ICSPR) is deeply concerned about the decision issued by the Palestinian President to suspend the allocations of the families of martyrs, prisoners, and wounded individuals. This decision is disgraceful and unjust, targeting groups that have made the greatest sacrifices for the freedom and dignity of our people. It comes in response to Israeli and American pressures and within the framework of releasing part of the clearance funds. This measure is taking place amid the escalation of Israeli crimes and growing national and humanitarian risks. It reflects a denial of the struggles and sacrifices of prisoners, the wounded, and the families of martyrs, reducing them to mere social cases, in clear violation of the Palestinian Basic Law and national legislation that enshrines their rights and safeguards their dignity.
ICSPR affirms that these groups have paid a high price for the Palestinian cause, and the Palestinian leadership should have protected their rights and strengthened the resilience of their families rather than abandoning them at this critical juncture for our national cause. The continuation of this decision would shift the government’s responsibility for them to a charitable organization that treats them based on need and assessment, depriving some of them of their entitlements. The abolition of the law protecting their rights would exacerbate the suffering of affected individuals and add to the humanitarian hardship faced by the families of martyrs, prisoners, and the wounded under current circumstances.
Accordingly, ICSPR calls on the Palestinian leadership to immediately reverse this illegal decision and to uphold its national and legal responsibilities toward the families of martyrs, prisoners, and wounded individuals, in line with Palestinian laws and the principles of justice and fairness. It also urges national forces and civil society to stand united against any violations of the rights of these groups, which have always been at the forefront of the Palestinian struggle.
