ICSPR handed letters to a number of international officials and organizations

International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights handed letters to a number of international officials and organizations, the UN and human rights actors in the Palestinian territories; that carried urgent appeals to save the lives of Palestinian hunger strikers in Israeli jails for the 38th day respectively, demanding to achieve a number of basic humanitarian claims; which Israel Prison Service deprives. As well as to contribute to ending the crises of the Gaza Strip caused by the Israeli blockade, particularly the electricity crisis and its negative repercussions on human rights. Besides, to intervene to put pressure on the Government of National Accord; urging them to carry out their responsibilities towards the citizens in the Gaza Strip and deviate services beyond the political division, and urge them to stop cutting salaries and salaries deduction policies; which resulted a difficult humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip

Letters were directly delivered by ICSPR delegation; who visited the United Nations Special Coordinator Office for the Middle East Peace Process “Nikolay Mladenov”, where he received the letter on behalf of Director of the United Nations Office, Mr. Gernot Sauer. In addition to another letter to the United Nations Secretary-General, Mr. Antonio Guterres.

Moreover, another letter was delivered to the Head of Sub-Delegation at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Gaza, Mr. Guislain Defurne. Whereas the fourth letter was delivered to the Director of the European Union Office in the Gaza Strip, Mr. Ayman Fteiha. While the fifth letter was delivered to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Palestine.

In the same context, the sixth letter was delivered to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OCHA), and was handed over to Mr. Ahmed Abu Shammala; Humanitarian Affairs Assistant at the Office. The letter included an urgent call for an action to save the Palestinian detainees lives, and work towards rescuing the Gaza Strip from worsening living conditions due to the Israeli blockade and the electricity crisis and its serious consequences on the daily lives of citizens. In addition to the recent salary crisis resulting from the illegal decisions of the Palestinian Government of National Accord.

These letters has hold the Israeli occupation the full responsibility of the detainee’s lives. It demanded to exert all possible pressure on Israel’s Government to save the hunger-striking prisoner’s lives; who are in real danger due to deterioration of their health as the Israeli Government neglects their demands

In addition, it called to take all necessary measures to guarantee that Israeli authorities respond to the Palestinian prisoners and detainees demands, and to break the international silence towards the escalation of International Human Rights standards violations and the rules of International Humanitarian Law and to oblige the occupation authorities to respect the International Law and the Geneva Conventions of 1949, its additional protocol of 1977, and its repressive practices and violations; which considered as war crimes against civilians in occupied Palestine. As well as stopping administrative detention, systematic violations and cruel procedures against Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails

It is worth mentioning that the number of Palestinian prisoners and detainees in Israeli jails is approximately 7000 Palestinian detainees distributed among 23 prisons; 500 of whom are administrative detainees, 62 women, and 450 child. Although about 1,200 of them suffer from various diseases, they are subject to medical negligence
