Urgent appeal

Among them “ICSPR” 151 human rights and civil society networks and organizations call for the release of the activists aboard the Freedom Flotilla ship “Madeline” and urge the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza.

The Israeli occupation forces continue committing acts of genocide against the people of the Gaza Strip, killing children and women, targeting families, destroying infrastructure and shelters, and imposing a total blockade and famine aimed at the partial or total destruction of Gaza’s population. These crimes have resulted in over 53,000 deaths, around 100,000 injuries, the destruction of more than 80% of residential buildings, and the forced displacement of hundreds of thousands within the Strip.

In a blatant affront to global solidarity with the people of Gaza, Israeli military forces committed an act of piracy at dawn on Monday, June 9, seizing the Freedom Flotilla Madleen, which was carrying food aid to civilians under siege. The undersigned organizations strongly condemn the Israeli army’s abduction of the activists and solidarity volunteers aboard the ship.

The undersigned organizations recall the responsibility of the international community, including the United Nations and regional organizations, to take immediate and effective measures to ensure the application of the rules and norms of international humanitarian law and international human rights law, and to activate the mandates of the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court.

The continued blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip, along with the obstruction of humanitarian aid, constitutes a crime against humanity under international law. This is especially evident under the provisions of the Geneva Conventions, specifically Article 33 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which prohibits collective punishment and UN Security Council Resolution 2417, which explicitly condemns the use of starvation as a weapon of war.

Accordingly, the undersigned organizations and networks call for the following:

  1. Urgent action by:
  1. The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food
  2. The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Health
  3. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)

To apply all available diplomatic and legal pressure to lift the blockade on Gaza and to hold the occupying authorities accountable before relevant international bodies.

  1. Full solidarity with the international activists aboard the Freedom Flotilla ship Madleen, calling for their immediate release and the guarantee of their safety.
  2. Encouraging the launch of additional Freedom Flotilla missions and solidarity marches to the Rafah crossing and Gaza’s maritime borders to break the ongoing blockade.
  3. Intensifying grassroots and diplomatic pressure campaigns in world capitals and international institutions to stop the aggression, end the blockade, and achieve justice for the victims.

Through this statement, we affirm that every day under this deadly blockade brings more unjustified suffering and death. We emphasize that international silence is not neutrality، it is complicity.
