ICSPR Strongly Condemns the Act of Maritime Piracy Against the Ship Madeleine, the Arrest of Activists Onboard, and the Prevention of Its Arrival to Gaza

The International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights (ICSPR) strongly condemns the heinous act of maritime piracy committed by Israeli occupation forces, who intercepted and surrounded the ship Madeleine, which was carrying 12 peace and human rights activists along with humanitarian aid. In the early hours of Monday, June 9, 2025, Israeli warships encircled the vessel in international waters, disrupted its communications, and dropped a white substance from a drone onto the ship before storming it and ordering the activists to raise their hands and submit to arbitrary arrest — according to the last images and videos sent by the activists before contact was lost.

ICSPR expresses its hope for the safety of all the brave activists aboard the Madeleine, who embody a deep humanitarian commitment in rejecting the crimes of blockade, genocide, and starvation. These individuals took action on behalf of the world to send a message rejecting international silence and inaction — despite the risks posed by repeated Israeli threats of arrest, assault, and towing the ship to Ashdod Port. ICSPR calls on all countries and international organizations to act urgently to protect the activists, uncover their fate, and work for their release.

ICSPR urges the international community to condemn this act of maritime piracy, which amounts to a war crime that flagrantly violates international humanitarian law, human rights standards, and the directives of the International Court of Justice. ICSPR calls for continued serious efforts to stop the genocide, open humanitarian land, sea, and air corridors to deliver urgent aid, boycott and impose sanctions on the Israeli occupation state, and hold its leaders and soldiers accountable before international courts.

End.
