(ICSPR): Repeated Israeli Attacks on the “Fleet of Steadfastness” in International Waters Require Accountability and Sanctions Against the Israeli Occupation State

The International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights (ICSPR) strongly condemns the heinous crime committed by Israeli occupation forces at dawn today against the “Fleet of Steadfastness”, which consisted of nine ships carrying more than 145 international activists from over 25 countries, within the framework of the “Coalition of the Fleet of Steadfastness” and the “A Thousand Madeleines for Gaza Initiative”. The fleet was sailing in international waters on a humanitarian mission aimed at breaking the blockade on Gaza and delivering aid to civilians suffering from the ongoing genocide.

ICSPR affirms that the actions carried out by the Israeli navy — including the siege of the ships, deliberate sinking operations, disabling of communication systems, and the arrest of activists, journalists, and international figures — constitute a full-fledged act of maritime piracy and a blatant violation of the Law of the Sea and international humanitarian law. These crimes are a continuation of Israel’s war crimes and genocidal acts against Palestinians and against all international solidarity efforts.

ICSPR holds the Israeli occupation authorities fully responsible for the lives and safety of all activists and international solidarity participants, stressing that their forced detention or exposure to harm constitutes an international crime that requires accountability and the imposition of sanctions on the Israeli occupation state.

ICSPR calls for expanded diplomatic action and popular protests in rejection of this crime and urges free peoples, trade unions, and civil movements to continue exerting popular pressure to ensure that the world’s states uphold their humanitarian and legal responsibilities to end the genocide and Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip.

ICSPR calls on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to open an urgent investigation into the crimes committed against the Fleet of Steadfastness and to hold accountable the Israeli leaders and soldiers responsible, as these acts represent a clear violation of civilian maritime freedom, an act of aggression against civilians, and a flagrant breach of the Rome Statute and international law.

ICSPR also urges the international community and free governments to act immediately to ensure the release and safety of all detained activists, to provide international protection for the members of the Fleet of Steadfastness, and to work toward ending the ongoing genocide and famine, and lifting the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip.
