ICSPR Holds Workshop on the Psychological and Social Impacts of Displacement and War on Children and Women
International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights – ICSPR, in cooperation with a group of Italian institutions, implemented an awareness workshop entitled “The Psychological and Social Impacts of Displacement and War on Children and Women.” The activity came within its programs aimed at strengthening community awareness of mental health and social protection issues amid the difficult humanitarian conditions experienced in the Gaza Strip.
The workshop was organized in response to the growing need to provide knowledge and community-based support for the most affected groups, particularly in light of the deep trauma caused by repeated war and displacement, which has severely impacted the psychological and social structure of families and directly affected the lives of children and women and their ability to regain stability and recover.
The workshop addressed the psychological and social repercussions of displacement and war, including the mental disorders, living pressures, and behavioral changes experienced by children and women. It also highlighted positive coping mechanisms, concepts of psychological first aid, and the role of the family and local community in mitigating the severity of the psychological impacts resulting from prolonged crises and conflicts.
Participants further discussed the importance of creating a safe and supportive environment that enables children and women to express their needs, as well as ways to protect the most vulnerable groups from risks of violence, neglect, and exploitation. Emphasis was placed on the necessity of spreading mental health awareness and integrating it into humanitarian responses, especially in situations of displacement and loss of security.
The workshop witnessed notable engagement from participants, as the floor was opened for discussion, exchange of experiences, and listening to real-life testimonies that reflected the scale of the daily suffering endured by children and women. A number of practical proposals were also put forward to strengthen community support networks and expand access to psychosocial assistance services.
ICSPR affirmed that these efforts fall within a comprehensive vision aimed at strengthening community resilience, in line with its ongoing commitment to defending the rights of children and women and ensuring their right to protection, care, and psychosocial support despite the challenges imposed on the Gaza Strip.
The Commission stressed its continued cooperation with its partners to implement awareness and capacity-building programs that contribute to alleviating the psychological consequences of war and supporting both individual and collective recovery processes.
