ICSPR Conducts an Awareness Session for Women on Displacement and Its Impacts in North Al-Shaftawi as Part of Its Ongoing Activities in Gaza

The International Commission to Support the Rights of the Palestinian People (ICSPR – “Hishd”), in partnership with a group of Italian institutions, organized an awareness session targeting a group of women in North Al-Shaftawi – Karama Camp in the Gaza Strip. This activity comes as part of the Commission’s continuous efforts to enhance community awareness and empower women amid the difficult humanitarian conditions in Gaza.

A total of 24 women participated in the session, which addressed the issue of displacement and its impacts on women and children. Participants were introduced to ways of dealing with emergencies and wartime situations, in addition to practical guidance on how to support children during periods of displacement and the psychological pressures they may experience.

During the session, the Commission’s team presented an awareness briefing on legal and human rights concepts related to the protection of civilians during armed conflicts, including an introduction to several provisions of the Geneva Conventions that guarantee the protection of women and children during wartime, emphasizing the importance of understanding fundamental humanitarian rights in times of conflict.

The session also included providing participants with information and statistics on the number of women and children victims, and the number of widows resulting from the ongoing aggression on the Gaza Strip, as well as discussing the challenges faced by women during displacement and ways to empower them to overcome constraints and difficulties related to housing, childcare, and making necessary decisions to protect their families.

Participants showed notable engagement with the session’s topics, exchanging discussions about their experiences during displacement and raising questions and inquiries related to protection mechanisms and support in the current circumstances.

ICSPR affirmed its commitment to continuing such awareness-raising activities aimed at strengthening legal and humanitarian awareness among women, enabling them to deal with emergency conditions in a way that preserves their dignity and safety, and enhances their ability to protect their families amid the humanitarian challenges facing the Gaza Strip.
