ICSPR Chairman Dr. Salah Abd Alati Participates in “World Law Day” Conference in Cairo

Dr. Salah Abd Alati, Chairman of the International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights (ICSPR), participated in a legal conference organized by the Ambassadors of Legal Awareness Foundation on the occasion of World Law Day, chaired by Ms. Hanan Al-Bably, at the headquarters of the Journalists’ Syndicate in Cairo. The conference was held under the title: “International Law from the Perspective of the Palestinian Cause”, under the patronage of Counselor Abdel Halim Allam, the General Syndicate of Egyptian Lawyers and President of the Arab Lawyers Union, with the participation of lawyer Shaban Al-Jarjir, representative of the Palestinian Lawyers Syndicate, and the attendance of dozens of Egyptian lawyers, journalists, and public figures.

In his speech, Dr. Salah Abd Alati emphasized that the Geneva and Hague Conventions, along with human rights standards and agreements, have become merely “ink on paper” in the face of Israeli conduct. He confirmed that the Palestinian people in Gaza are subjected to a world-recognized genocide, as Israel has committed massacres and mass killings that led to the death and disappearance of approximately 75,000 citizens and the injury of 167,000, 70% of whom are children and women, in addition to the destruction of 90% of the sector’s landmarks, cities, and refugee camps. Humanitarian aid has been blocked using starvation as a weapon, causing the forced displacement of over 2 million Palestinians, along with the banning of UNRWA operations and targeting journalists, doctors, lawyers, and humanitarian workers. He pointed to the failure of international justice, the silence of the international community, and the weakness of the United Nations, which represents a collapse of the international legal system, replaced by the American-Israeli law of the jungle, criticizing the U.S. cover for the occupation in the Security Council.

He highlighted the use of veto power to prevent the international community from fulfilling its role in stopping the genocide and referred to efforts to hold the Israeli occupation accountable before the International Court of Justice, Israel’s refusal to implement its rulings, and the efforts before the International Criminal Court. He stressed the importance of issuing arrest warrants for Netanyahu, the Minister of War, and insisted on including all leaders, soldiers, and collaborators of the occupation from countries and companies. He also emphasized the use of the principle of universal jurisdiction before courts in several countries, calling on all lawyers and human rights activists to intensify legal actions to pursue occupation leaders in international courts.

Dr. Salah Abd Alati praised Egypt’s humanitarian and diplomatic positions supporting the Palestinian cause, warning against plans for forced displacement and colonial annexation, and called for a collective Arab and international stance to stop the genocide, confront the illusions of establishing “Greater Israel,” and leverage Arab power and international pressure to compel the occupation to end its aggression and occupation.

For his part, the Egyptian Lawyers Syndicate Chairman and President of the Arab Lawyers Union, Abdel Halim Allam, affirmed that increasing international recognition of the Palestinian state strengthens the Palestinian position on the international stage, praising the resilience of the Palestinian people and the need to support their just cause.

He also stressed the solidarity of the Egyptian Lawyers Syndicate with the struggle and rights of the Palestinian people, calling for reform of the United Nations system and serious action to stop the genocide and hold Israel accountable.

Ms. Hanan Al-Bably confirmed her full support for the rights of the Palestinian people, explaining that the conference aimed to highlight the importance of international law and its application in the Palestinian case, stressing the ethical and legal responsibility of the international community to protect Palestinians and denouncing the double standards in law enforcement. She welcomed the attendees and guests, affirming the continuity of the activities of the Ambassadors of Legal Awareness Foundation in supporting the rule of law and the Palestinian cause.

In the same context, lawyer Counselor Shaban Al-Jarjir highlighted the severity of the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the violations and crimes committed by the occupation that undermine the credibility of international law. He spoke about exposing the escalating Israeli crimes and their dangers to civilians, calling for supporting Palestinian resilience through all means to prevent forced displacement plans and stressing the importance of actions by lawyers’ syndicates and the Arab Lawyers Union to support the accountability of the occupation as a war criminal before international courts.

The conference concluded by emphasizing the need to strengthen legal efforts, popular movements, and international solidarity campaigns, support Palestinian, Arab, and international rights paths to hold occupation leaders accountable, and praised Egyptian and Arab efforts aimed at stopping the aggression, recognizing the Palestinian state, and confronting Israeli schemes that threaten regional and international peace and security.
