Dr. Abdal Ati: The Entry of a Very Limited Number of Trucks After a Comprehensive Siege Is a Transparent and Superficial Step Meant to Mislead Public Opinion and Perpetuate Genocidal Policies

Dr.Salah Abdal Ati, Chairman of the International Commission to Support Palestinian People’s Rights (ICSPR), expressed his strong condemnation of the move taken by the Israeli occupation authorities on Sunday, May 19, 2025, to allow a very limited number of humanitarian aid trucks into the Gaza Strip after more than 80 days of total siege and complete closure of all border crossings, amid catastrophic and unprecedented humanitarian conditions.

Dr. Abdal Ati stressed that this meager step, promoted as a “humanitarian response to save the people of Gaza from hunger,” is nothing more than a blatant attempt to mislead international public opinion and whitewash the image of the occupation, at a time when it continues to commit crimes of genocide, starvation, and systematic destruction against more than 2.3 million besieged civilians in the Strip.

He added that the entry of this symbolic number of trucks can only be interpreted as a flagrant disregard for civilian lives and a political exploitation of humanitarian aid. He also noted the arrival of personnel from American security companies, despite rejection from the United Nations, international organizations, and all components of Palestinian society regarding the joint American-Israeli aid plan. This plan aims to use aid as a tool to implement demographic changes and replace UNRWA and other international organizations as part of a broader scheme to empty Gaza of its population and forcibly annex it to the occupying state through killing, starvation, terror, and total destruction.

Dr. Abdal Ati warned against attempts by the occupation to portray this move as a “humanitarian breakthrough” and called on the international community to reject this type of humanitarian and political deception. He urged rejection of the Israeli-American plans to militarize aid and reaffirmed that delivering aid to Gaza is a legal and moral right that must not be subject to bargaining or blackmail.

On behalf of ICSPR, Dr. Abdal Ati called for the following:

  1. The United Nations and international humanitarian organizations to reject collusion with these superficial steps and to act urgently to ensure the entry of sufficient aid and the opening of safe and permanent humanitarian corridors free from occupation control.

  2. The High Contracting Parties to the Geneva Conventions to uphold their legal and moral responsibilities, work to stop the genocide and collective punishment, confront the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, and hold occupation leaders accountable as war criminals.

  3. Media outlets and human rights organizations to intensify efforts to expose this manipulation of aid and to truthfully and transparently convey the catastrophic humanitarian reality of Gaza’s residents to the world.
