ICSPR addresses the Inter-Parliamentary Union regarding the Israeli threats of Palestinian leaders

The International Commission to Support Palestinians’ Rights “ICSPR” has addressed the Human Rights Advisor at the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Ms.Buthaina Mhherzi, regarding the recent Israeli threats of the Palestinian leadership to obstruct the holding of the Palestinian elections, after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas issued a presidential decree, during which he determined the dates for holding the comprehensive Palestinian elections consecutively, as the legislative elections will be held on 22 May 2021, the presidential on 31 July 2021, and the National Council on 31 August 2021.

Where the occupation authorities have threatened many Palestinian leaders and activists from the West Bank with imprisonment in case they run for any upcoming elections, of them: “Hatem Naji Amr”, “Omar Barghouthi,” and others, warning them from running in the upcoming elections, and threatened them with imprisonment and prosecution.

ICSPR called Ms. Mhherzi to exert more efforts in a way that establishes respect for the parliamentary experience and the nascent democratic transition process in the Palestinian territories, and demanded to address the Israeli threats to leaders and activists, with the aim of obstructing the holding of Palestinian elections in a brutal manner that violates all charters and norms related to representative and democratic work.
