Urgent appeal

Gaza welcomes the holy month of Ramadan while steeped in Poverty, Unemployment and Gloom

International Commission to Support Palestinian Rights (ICSPR) mobilizes its warmest congratulations to the Palestinian, Arab people and to the Islamic nation; on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan and the victory of the Palestinian prisoners against the stick of the executioner.

ICSPR expresses its hope that this holy month of Ramadan will be a great cause for strengthening civil peace, deepening the rich’s sense of the poor and alerting the international community and the Palestinian National Authority to the scale of humanitarian tragedies and disasters the Gaza Strip suffers.

The deterioration of humanitarian and living conditions in the Gaza Strip is no secret. With 80% poverty and 42% unemployment rates; which are two of the highest rates in the world. In addition to the significant decline in the hours of electricity arrives, besides the degradation of capita income and the movement of the economy in the light of the siege, cutting and reduction salaries of citizens.

ICSPR believes that emotional statements sufficiency about the Gaza Strip and feeling worried about the situation in Gaza will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger; which requires urgent intervention to stop the deterioration and collapse.

ICSPR stresses that the month of Ramadan is the month of mercy, the month of good, the month of deepening the national and humanitarian feeling. We urgently appeal to all decision-makers and people of conscience; claiming the following:

To call upon all division parties to work hard, with living consciences and a sincere will to promote civil peace and to move boldly and without hesitation towards restoring national unity and rebuilding the Palestinian political system on a participatory and democratic basis.
Inviting the government and those responsible in the West Bank and Gaza Strip to pay employees full salaries with no reductions. As well as to positively intervene to improve services, end the electricity crisis, and to support and strengthen the steadfastness of citizens in the Gaza Strip.
To call upon the International Community in all its mechanisms to assume its responsibilities and carry out its legal and moral duties to pressure on the Israeli occupation to lift the siege imposed on the Gaza Strip.
To call upon all International and Arab humanitarian institutions to increase their financial support for the poor and the unemployed in the Gaza Strip.
To invite those the rich and capable at home and abroad to strengthen the bonds of social solidarity and to carry out their duties to financially support the poor and the unemployed throughout the month of Ramadan.

We are confident that in a situation of legal and moral decline; many human rights and conscience entities will find this appeal and listen to it urgently.
